Catalogue Note

Lodewijck van der Helst trained with his father, Bartholomeus van der Helst, whose influence is recognizable in this painting. It is likely that the picture was originally signed L. vander. helst.f. and then later amended to read B [1].

 

1. A test conducted by an outside restorer confirmed the signature is from the 17th century.
